Isla Mujeres

One of Mexico's best beaches lies in Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres.  Here you will find clear, calm water like a bathtub.  You can walk out for miles and the water only comes up to your waist.

Playa Sur overlooking to Cancun
How to Get Here:
Ferry ride is 20 min. from Cancun and costs 146 pesos for a return ticket.

Where to Stay:

My first option would be this hotel because it is right on the best beach in town, very clean and reasonably priced:

Cabañas Maria del Mar, Playa Norte
Low season: 700 pesos/night
High season: 1,300 pesos/night
Playa Norte

Other options:
Hotel Francis Arlene, Downtown
60-65 USD/night

If you want luxury:
Hotel Secreto (within walking distance to Playa Norte)
Hotel Villa Rolandi (other side of island near lagoon)

What to do

One of my favorite things to do is rent a golf cart and tour the island, this will cost you 180 pesos per hour or 600 for 24 hours.  Don't rent off the hagglers at the ferry terminal, walk up one block to a place called "Joaquin" golf cart rentals, here you will get an honest price.

Or you can rent a bicycle for 100 pesos for the day but I don't recommend this option, I have done it and the bicycles are not very good quality, rent a golf cart and grab a beer in the drive-through liquor store.
View alongside the road
Take a ride down to the lagoon by Hotel Villa Rolandi and grab a cold coconut on the way.

Take a ride to Playa Sur and have an ice cream or cold drink overlooking the ocean to Cancun - breathtaking view of the ocean

Where to Eat

Olivia - located downtown, authentic Mediterranean food

Mango Cafe - located in the centre of the island, this cafe is wonderful for breakfast, with reasonable prices, 110 pesos for their signature eggs benedict or delicious coconut, almond and maple french toast.
